Better Academic Writing
Most university courses will require students to write essays and/or a thesis. This course equips participants with knowledge and skills on "how" to write a successful essay or dissertation. Upon successful completion of the course participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion showing all modules covered.
Who is this course for
The course is designed for undegraduate and postgraduate students. Other tertiary students required to write an essay as part of their qualification will also find this course very useful.

The course is delivered in four modules as follows:
Module 1: Writing sentences, paragraphs and sections
Module 2: Structuring your essay/ thesis
Module 3: Use of active voice in writing
Module 4: Connecting ideas and improving cohesion
Module 5: Using punctuation marks
Module 6: Citation and referencing your essay /thesis
Module 7: Editing and proof reading your essay/ thesis
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
♦ write an essay or a thesis that has clear sentences, paragraphs and sections
♦ write an essay or a thesis that is well structured
♦ use active voice in writing your essay or thesis
♦ chose appropriate words to connect ideas and improve cohesion
♦ use punctuation marks correctly
♦ cite and reference your essay or thesis correctly
♦ Edit and proof read your essay or thesis

The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this course is approximately 14 hours (2 full days). The workload comprises a mixture of scheduled learning, short assignments (activities) and independent study of additional reading resources provided as part of the course. Participants are encouraged to submit each activity as soon as it is completed. This ensures they receive timely feedback on the activity before proceeding to the next module.
